The English Language Wing (ELW) was established on 26/2/1968, at the Founding Martyr Abdullah bin Al-Hussein Infantry School. It was entrusted with the task of conducting basic English language courses for JAF officers and NCOs. In 1980, the Language Institute was established as an independent unit, affiliated with the Directorate of Military Training. The ELW plays a significant role in preparing and qualifying JAF officers and NCOs in the English language by conducting English language courses at all levels (basic, intermediate, and advanced), as well as conducting special English language courses for numerous units and formations of JAF. The ELW holds Intensive English language courses for students who have attained a bachelor’s degree in English language and conducts special translation courses for various service members, whose units require qualified translators for various reasons. The ELW also translates documents, treaties, and SOPs of JAF units. It is tasked with providing professional interpreters to accompany official delegations and offers simultaneous translation services during conferences and joint exercises. The English language is taught according to the latest teaching methods used in most modern foreign language schools. The American Language Course (ALC) is considered one of the best syllabi used in all levels of English instructions because it practically addresses various linguistic skills in addition to providing worksheets and additional materials to improve the students educational abilities at all levels. The teaching staff is comprised of the finest and most adept instructors who utilize modern teaching aids thus creating an environment conducive to learning, for all students. The ELW aims to develop student's language and communication skills by using theoretically and technically supported means so that students can acquire listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills which will better equip them to participate in not only courses abroad; but joint exercises. Creating service members that have the skills to deal with different cultures and enjoy the understanding and awareness of the task of dealing with other cultures.
